Grenache/Garnacha

Grenache, or as it's known in Spain, Garnacha, is one of the most widely planted red wine grape varieties in the world. Originally from northern Spain, the Grenache grape has thin skin and ripens late, thus making it a choice grape for warm climates such as the Rhône Valley in France and Spain's Rioja region.

Grenache is renowned for its ability to produce robust, flavourful wines with high alcohol content. Yet, it maintains a smooth and luscious consistency with softer tannins. The grape is known predominantly for its red fruit flavours, delivering enticing notes of raspberry, strawberry, and black cherry. Famous blends include Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the esteemed Garnacha-based wines of Spain.

Despite its predominance and popularity, Grenache is not particularly celebrated as a single varietal wine. It often plays a supporting role to more renowned grape varieties such as Syrah or Mourvèdre. Nevertheless, a well-crafted Grenache wine can undoubtedly deliver a delightful and unique experience for the pallet.
