Product Notes

Bodega Protos Verdejo Rueda is an exquisite Spanish white wine from the renowned Rueda region. Boasting bright, crystal clear hues, this wine's palate is delightfully engaging with well-balanced acidity. It imparts fragrant aromas of ripe fruit, herbs and notes of fennel, which affirms its varietal Verdejo character. The taste unfolds rich flavours of peaches and citrus balanced by a crisp minerality that makes it utterly refreshing. Bodega Protos Verdejo Rueda demonstrates excellent structure and a satisfyingly lengthy finish. Ideal for summer picnics or paired with seafood, this wine encapsulates Spanish vineyard mastery beautifully.

Tasting Notes

Bright yellow straw color, with green hints that reflect its youth. Aromas of tropical fruits (pineapple) and citrus fruits first appear along with white fruits (apple) and herbs, such as boxwood and fennel. Dry with an amazing balance of freshness and acidity. Good structure and body given by its fine lees’ aging. Long finish with a slightly bitter palate, typical of the variety.

About the Winery

Bodega Protos

Nestled in the heart of Spain's Ribera del Duero region, Bodega Protos is a living testament to the rich history and traditions of Spanish viticulture. An emblem of innovation and quality, the winery's name itself, derived from the Greek word for "first", encapsulates its commitment to being a pioneer in the world of wine.

Established in 1927, Bodega Protos is the oldest winery in Ribera del Duero. With a century old history, the winery owes its legacy to 11 visionary wine farmers who, having recognised the superlative potential of the region's terroir and weather conditions, endeavoured to establish a winery that would not only embody their passion but also reflect their dedication to quality. Their dream, manifested in Protos, is now renowned for producing some of Spain's finest wines.

Bodega Protos is also no stranger to using modern technology to optimize traditional wine-making techniques. Imbedded in a hillside, the architectural marvel boasts an expansive, labyrinthine network of tunnels used for cellaring their wines. These subterranean galleries, that extend more than 2 kilometres below the surface, provide idyllic conditions for ageing wines.

In addition to its impressive architecture, this winery continually impresses its patrons with an extensive portfolio of wines. From the robust yet elegant Reserva and Gran Reserva, to its fruit-forward, velvety Crianza and the vibrant, uncomplicated Roble, each bottle tells a tale of the region's unique parameters and the winemaker's intricate craft – an eclectic blend of tradition and state-of-the-art technology.

However, what truly sets Protos apart, is its unwavering commitment to sustainability. Environmentally responsible practices including a dedicated water treatment facility, ensuring waste from the wine production process is well-managed. Also the use of biomass from their vineyard pruning replaces fossil fuels for heating, making Protos a leading figure in a sector that often struggles to balance tradition with modern, eco-conscious requirements.

In essence, Bodega Protos is an enchanting paradox, where century-old traditions blend seamlessly with cutting-edge innovation, embodying the timeless spirit of Spain, one bottle at a time.
