It exudes complex notes of ripe red fruits, vanilla, and spices, a reflection of its maturation in oak barrels. The full-bodied texture is balanced by a delightful freshness, along with firm tannins that contribute to a lengthy finish. Only produced in exceptional years, this Tuscan wine is a tribute to Sangioveto, Tuscany's noble grape variety. Best enjoyed with Italian foods, it's a treat for every wine connoisseur craving a taste of tradition.

Tasting Notes

A warm, savoury and concentrated wine offering an array of fragrant aromas of red fruits, balsamic notes, floral, toasty spice, vanilla and cloves all unfolding into the palate. Great structure is supported by balanced acidity and supple tannins through to an everlasting finish.

About the Winery

Badia a Coltibuono

Badia a Coltibuono welcomes visitors into the enchanting world of wine in the heart of Tuscany, Italy. Established in 1051, the winery rests in a serene landscape, fringed by verdant vineyards, shimmering olive groves and woodlands teeming with wildlife.

Hands up if you appreciate history. Because this place is steeped in it. A former monastery turned vineyard, Badia a Coltibuono, roughly translating to the 'Abbey of the Good Harvest', reveals the religious and agricultural history of the region. Over the centuries, it transformed into a flourishing winery while preserving its vibrant past. Preserved gothic architecture, faded frescoes, and age-old wine cellars add to the charm, making it a living museum where you can have a glass wine, too.

The vineyard, stretched across approximately 60 hectares, is where the magic happens. Badia a Coltibuono has long championed organic farming, shunning chemical intervention to improve the soil's fertility and vine's productivity naturally. Here, Sangiovese holds sway, accounting for a major portion of the vines grown. Other varietals include Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Foglia Tonda, Mammolo, Malvasia Nera, to list but a few.

Guests are invited to sample fine Chianti Classicos in the convivial tasting room and to explore the expansive underground cellars guided by knowledgeable staff. They share insightful stories about the wine-making processes, from vine to bottle. What's more, seasoned chefs host cooking classes rustling up sumptuous Tuscan delights, pairing with their exceptional wines brilliantly.

Offering more than just wine and culinary experiences, Badia a Coltibuono also boasts a bed-and-breakfast, providing an ultimate retreat in the tranquil Tuscan hills. Each room is individual, with antique furniture offering a touch of rustic elegance and promise stunning views over the countryside.

Badia a Coltibuono winery serves as a picturesque backdrop to the age-old tradition of wine production and is a testament to the ingenuity of Italian winemakers patience to the values of organic farming and passion for sharing their wine with the world.
