Product Notes

De Toren Private Cellar's Book XVII is a richly layered Bordeaux-style blend, sourced from South Africa's Vineyard. An alignment of exceptional dark berries, blackcurrant, and plum alongside subtle notes of dark chocolate and tobacco render this wine a sensory delight. Carefully aged in new oak barrels, the wine exudes a velvety texture, balanced by nuances of delicate spice and refined tannins, culminating in a lingering finish. Its scarcity, uncompromising pursuit of quality, and stunning presentation make the Book XVII one of the world's most sought-after boutique wines – a true collector's masterpiece and a testament to winemaking artistry.

Tasting Notes

Darker fruit on the palate is layered with a rich graphite minerality, rounded by a touch of sweet spice nutmeg and underlying vanilla. - MARTIN FOURIE, WINEMAKER

About the Winery

De Toren

Situated in the iconic Stellenbosch region of South Africa, De Toren is a world-renowned winery. This boutique winery is cherished for their excellent blends of Bordeaux wines that seamlessly combine traditional wine making techniques with modern technologies.

The estate sprawls across 22 hectares of lush, fertile ground renowned for its excellent terroir. The vineyard’s geographical location, its proximity to the cool Atlantic breeze, and the stony, clay-rich soil result in a distinct and full-bodied flavour in the grapes, a unique trait that is unmistakably De Toren.

At De Toren, the intricate process of viticulture is practised with utmost dedication. One of their principles is a hands-on approach, right from meticulous pruning to the berry sorting pre and post-harvest. They also integrates the innovative process of gravity-flow winemaking in their vinification, ensuring that the grapes and subsequently the juice are not subjected to unnecessary pressure throughout the process, thereby preserving quality.

Each vintage is carefully managed to produce the signature Bordeaux blends, De Toren Z and De Toren Fusion V which are appreciated by connoisseurs worldwide. Both are rich, complex and full-bodied wines reflecting the perfect balance of five grape varieties the estate specialises in: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.

Known not only for their exquisite wines, De Toren prides itself on sustainable practises and commitment to social responsibility. They reduced their traditional carbon footprint and water usage significantly, opting for solar energy and other sustainable forms of farming and winemaking.

Over the years, De Toren has seen countless international accolades coming it's way. This lies on the back of the dedication and mindfulness that go into each bottle. Taste a De Toren wine, and you'll experience the splendid fusion of invaluable traditions with future-forward thinking.
