Product Notes

Agricola Punica Barrua wine is a sensational Italian blend, mostly involving Carignano grapes. This full-bodied red wine hails from Sardinia, exhibiting a velvety richness with delicate hints of ripe berries and spices. Aged primarily in French barriques, it develops a beautiful integration of robust tannins and vibrant acidity joined by lush, sanguine notes. The lingering finish is laced with touches of chocolate and spiced plums, creating a captivating complexity. The balance of power and finesse makes this wine an exceptional choice for seasoned wine drinkers and novices alike. It's perfect alongside red meats and mature cheese. Barrua truly captures Sardinian winemaking at its finest.

Tasting Notes

It is a wine with an intense and lively ruby-red colour, with complex aromas of ripe red fruit (mainly black cherry), spices, notes of liquorice and hints of myrtle.

About the Winery

Agricola Punica

Established in the fertile lands of Sardinia in Italy, Agricola Punica is widely heralded as one of the foremost wineries in the country. Renowned for its prime position and unique winemaking techniques, this winery has successfully carved a niche for its high-quality wines.

Agricola Punica was founded in the early 2000s following the collaboration of two winegrowing families, the Sebastiano Rosa family and the Tenuta San Guido. The latter firm are holds the esteemed reputation for creating Sassicaia—arguably Italy's finest wine. The collaboration brought together over 200 hectares of vineyards ideal for grape cultivation. Agricola Punica, over time, has been complemented by its diverse grape varieties, each adding a distinctive flavour to their wines; the key varieties include Carignano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.

Nestled in the valleys of Sulcis Meridionale, the vineyard is augmented by the region’s clayey and sandy soils combined with schistous rocks. These unique elements, coupled with a favourable climate, lend an intriguing complexity to the wines produced. The vineyards are cultivated employing novel agricultural techniques, ensuring the yield retains the natural flavours and essence of the native soil.

At Agricola Punica, they advocate the blend of tradition with innovation. This ethos is particularly evident in their selection of wines. Singularly enticing to the discerning wine connoisseurs are ‘Barrua’ and ‘Montessu’, wines characterized by their richness, aroma and inherent palate of succulent fruitiness.

Nevertheless, the winery’s laudable reputation doesn't rest solely on the superior quality of its wines, but also on it’s strong commitment towards environment sustainability. Agricola Punica ardently follows green policies, adopting eco-friendly practices which vastly minimise its impact on the local environment.

From a global perspective, Agricola Punica, is not only a benchmark for Sardinian wines, but also stands among Italy’s finest wineries; a testament to the unmatched expertise of its vintners and the exceptional, fertile soil of Sardinia.
