Product Notes

COS Frappato IGP is a splendid Italian red wine, hailing from Sicily's prestigious COS winery. This wine boasts an impressive array of whimsical, fruity notes, including red cherries, strawberries, and blackberries. A backdrop of spices, namely pepper and clove, adds a certain panache to its flavour profile. On the palate, COS Frappato IGP is a charming ensemble of vivacity and elegance, accompanied by a refreshing acidity and gentle tannins. This medium-bodied ruby beauty with a lasting finish pairs excellently with charcuterie, light pasta dishes and white meats, exemplifying the charm of Sicilian viticulture.

Tasting Notes

Cos Frappato, vibrant, strawberry, clean and juicy, Natural Sicilian red wine. Frappato has a warm ruby colour, not especially dense but bright and truly red, without blue or purple tones, even though it is still a young wine. The aromas are charming: fragrant wild strawberries and hint of candied orange peel and light spice, maybe cinnamon. The polished texture is silky but definite, with a fine balance of clear fruit and structure (tannins and acidity) to give it depth and length.. It is unoaked, complex and layered, juicy but not simple.

About the Winery

COS

COS winery, nestled in the picturesque region of Vittoria, Sicily, is renowned for its fusion of ancient and modern winemaking techniques. Known for its distinctive biodynamic wines crafted from indigenous grapes, this winery is much-loved by both wine connoisseurs and curious enthusiasts alike.

In 1980, three ambitious friends – Cilia, Occhipinti and Strano, combined to launch the winery, the name COS derived from their initials. They envisioned a pursuit of wine-making where the natural essence of the vineyard was prescribed primacy over methods of modern viticulture. Their wines represent the pure expression of the grape and the vigneron, untouched and uncomplicated by contemporary technology.

COS Winery pushes the boundaries of conventional winemaking; it exploits the rich Sicilian terroir by deploying age-old techniques of fermenting the grapes in buried terracotta amphoras, harking back to the Grecian influence on Sicily. All wine varieties offered by the winery, whether it be Cerasuolo Di Vittoria or Nero d'Avola, encapsulate an authentic Sicilian taste - a tantalising infusion of earthy and fruity flavours.

Underneath the lush vineyards, the winery conceals a network of cellars of sorts, where these amphoras line the walls, maturing precious juice with time. In this labyrinthine space, artisanal proficiency reigns supreme, the uplifting aroma of ageing wine permeating the air while the hushed sounds of maturation reverberate, creating an atmosphere saturated with exquisite craftsmanship.

Visitors are welcomed with warm Italian hospitality and are offered an immersive wine-tasting journey that exhibits the diverse profile of COS’ wines. The tour culminates in a degustation of an array of wines in COS' rustic tasting area, where the sublime mélange of flavours from the wine and the breathtaking vineyard setting offer a sensory experience second to none.

However, this idyllic setting does more than produce beautiful wines, it's a testament to sustainability – where mindful agriculture and respect for the cycles of nature are at the heart of operations. To visit the COS winery is, in itself, a celebration of tradition, innovation and - the pleasure of a good glass of wine.
