Product Notes

Edi Simcic's Malvazija (or Malvasia) is a distinguished Slovenian wine that captivates vinos with its full-bodied, smooth, and intricately layered flavours. Sparkling notes of stone fruit, honey, and wildflowers delightfully blend with the refined hints of oak and herbs. Emanating a fresh yet complex aroma, this translucent golden wine exhibits a well-balanced acidity that enhances its lingering finish. Harvested from the time-honoured Simcic vineyards, this Malvazija is matured exquisitely for 24 months, adding depth to its taste spectrum. Ultimately, an indulgence for any wine enthusiast seeking a sophisticated, tasteful white wine with a distinct character.

Tasting Notes

The deeper golden-yellow colour indicates the high level of ripeness of the grapes. The wine’s bouquet is intense, surprisingly fruity and even overripe. The aroma of dry and fresh peaches and apricots blends with balsamic notes of Mediterranean maquis. It feels dry and robust in the mouth with distinct character of dry apricots. Its longer salty aftertaste and mineral content cleans the palate well. Malvasia definitely shows its varietal character. However, it is more the style of the Edi Simčič winery that is emphasized than are its varietal characteristics.

About the Winery

Edi Simcic

Edi Simcic winery is a renowned establishment located in the heart of Goriska Brda, in western Slovenia. Nestled amidst the rolling hills that straddle the Italian border, the winery's charismatic founder, Edi Simcic, has spent decades perfecting his craft brands, garnering a particularly strong reputation for his Bordeaux-style blends.

The vineyard prides itself on the meticulous care that goes into cultivating its grapes: the yield is kept deliberately low, ensuring the highest quality for each vintage. The lush varietals encompass Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and, a local favourite, Rebula. Despite its relatively modest size, the winery combines a respect for traditional viniculture with state-of-the-art technology – a rare fusion that sets it apart from other vineyards in the region.

The wines themselves are a testament to this fine craftsmanship. They exude complex flavour profiles, provocative aromas, and a delightful balance that emphatically echoes the careful attention and love infused into every stage of the production process,

A tour of the Edi Simcic winery is an enriching experience. Visitors can explore the historic cellars, witness firsthand the wine-making process, and of course, sample the splendid wines directly from barrel. The staff offer a personal touch, guiding guests through tastings with an energy that mirrors the passion of the winemaker himself.

In a world teeming with commercial wineries; Edi Simcic truly stands out for its commitment to the art of viniculture. The fundamental belief here is that wine is not merely a beverage, but a living, breathing entity that tells a story. In every bottle of Simcic wine, there lies a tale of respect for the land, dedication to quality, and a deep-seated passion for winemaking. Such is the charm and allure of the Edi Simcic winery. An epitome of unique wines with character the vineyard surely is a must-visit locale for every wine aficionado.
